Dear ARB,

I am fairly new to the 4WDing scene, having recently purchased a twin cab HiLux to access those remote fishing spots. In terms of recovery gear, I already have a snatch strap, and would like to know what you would recommend next? i.e. Should a winch be my next priority, or a compressor and Air Lockers so that I am less likely to need the winch? Or, are there other items or techniques that I should be considering?

Regards,

Jeremy

Thanks for the enquiry Jeremy,

What you buy next in the way of recovery gear really depends on your driving style and the areas you like to 4WD in. If fishing’s your passion and you’re not getting too far off the beaten track, a Warn winch coupled with a combination of ARB recovery gear is going to be capable of pulling your vehicle out of even the most precarious situation. A shower of rain that’s made a seemingly easy track in the dry turn into a stage from the Rainforest Challenge has caught out many of us 4wheelers. Don’t forget though, if you are going to fit a winch, you’ll need to fit a winch compatible bull bar also. ARB has winch bars to suit a range of HiLux variants, including air bag compatible models.

If you’re thinking of tackling some more serious terrain, then you can’t go past an ARB Air Locker. The ARB Air Locker when fitted to both front and rear axles provides true 4WD ability and is the ultimate traction aid. They are capable of getting you through and out of some of the toughest track conditions our country has to offer. With the flick of the dash-mounted switch, you can be confident that traction is less than a second away. You also get the added benefit of a vehicle mounted air compressor, that when fitted with the optional inflation kit can be used for re-inflating your tyres as well as other items like inflatable rafts and airbeds.

Ultimately, either of these accessories will make your vehicle capable of taking your next adventure further and making it far more enjoyable. To check out the range of Warn winches available for your HiLux and to receive a demonstration on the use of Air Lockers, pop into one of our stores. Our sales staff will take the time to understand your needs and give you practical, hands on advice.

Good luck with the fishing…
