With the demand for rear bar functionality and vehicle integration increasing, ARB have developed an entirely new rear step tow bar (RSTB) to address this consumer need. During the lengthy development period, our engineers wanted to understand how vehicle owners are utilising current rear bars, and build on this knowledge to achieve a product that provides a near OE appearance, but offers substantially more versatility and protection.

The all new Summit rear step tow bar combines class leading design, proven ARB engineering and a no compromise approach to protection and performance. Built around a 60.3mm x 2.6mm steel tubing frame, finished in a textured black powder coat, the new rear bar includes a 3.5t 50mm hitch as standard, with the tow hitch pin located to allow fitment of Bushranger’s recovery hitch.

Two tow chain fixture points are integrated into the design, as well as four Hi-Lift jack points, with one on each wing and two secondary points located on each of the rear corners.

A concealed, spring assisted cover panel lifts up to reveal provisions for trailer plug wiring, ARB air compressor outlet, ARB trailer camera wiring and a 50amp Anderson plug. A non slip anodised aluminium tread plate completes the step section of the bar, while a moulded licence plate bezel and Narva LED licence plate light replace the factory configuration.

The vehicle specific design is provided in two variants, for both sensor and non-sensor equipped vehicles. The side wings are supplied in a tough, satin black powder coat and can be colour coded to suit individual vehicles.

Replaceable stone guards are located under the bar to prevent damage to the vehicle’s beaver panel. Formed from 2mm zinc plated steel, these guards deflect debris projected by the rear tyres.

To protect vulnerable rear quarter panels from side impact, the Summit rear bar incorporates an entirely new design architecture. The tubular frame passes directly through the lower tub section, rather than sitting within the lower recess, providing incredible side impact protection in situations where the vehicle may slide into an obstruction when negotiating challenging terrain.

The ARB Summit rear step tow bar will launch for Ford Ranger PX 2011 on models in May 2015, with vehicle applications to expand over time.
