VICTORIAN HIGH COUNTRY

When ARB turned 50, we marked the milestone with a convoy through Victoria’s High Country, setting off from Head Office in Kilsyth with a line-up that included the 50th Anniversary LandCruiser 300, a restored 40 Series, Earth Campers and ARB-equipped rigs. Across the week we tackled tracks like Bluff, 16 Mile Jeep, Wild Horse Gap and Billy Goat Bluff, testing gear in real conditions, sharing stories around the fire and celebrating the adventure and community that has defined ARB for 50 years.

4WD TRACK ETIQUETTE

4WDing is more popular than ever, so track etiquette is essential. Respect the environment by taking rubbish with you, sticking to marked tracks and leaving campsites clean. Be self-sufficient with recovery gear, food, water and communication tools so you are always prepared.    Good manners also make trips safer and more enjoyable. Give right of way to vehicles heading uphill, use your UHF to communicate and follow convoy practices so no one gets left behind.

UPGRADING YOUR SUSPENSION FOR TOWING

Towing heavy loads can quickly expose the limits of standard suspension, affecting comfort, handling and safety. An aftermarket suspension upgrade tailored to your vehicle helps restore balance, improve steering control and make long drives far more enjoyable. OME offers solutions designed specifically for towing, including heavy-duty springs and GVM upgrades for fully loaded setups.

SPEED VS POSITION SENSITIVE DAMPING

Speed and position sensitive damping work together to balance comfort and control. OME Nitrocharger and MT64 shocks are tuned for smooth rides at low speed and stability on rough roads, while the BP-51 combines both technologies with adjustable settings to suit any terrain or load.

WHY UPGRADE YOUR SUSPENSION?

Every 4WD is designed for a variety of uses, which means factory suspension is often a compromise between comfort, load carrying and handling. An OME suspension kit upgrades shocks, springs and key components to better manage these demands, improving comfort, control and durability for both new and old vehicles, whether for daily driving, towing or off-road touring.

HISTORY OF OLD MAN EMU

Old Man Emu began in off road racing in 1976, taking its name from the bird’s stability over rough terrain. Since joining ARB in 1988, it has grown into Australia’s leading 4WD suspension brand, offering complete systems tailored to more than 200 vehicles. Every kit is engineered and tested in real-world conditions to deliver the right balance of comfort, load carrying and control, making OME suspension trusted by 4WDers for both work and play.

ABOUT LIFT

A suspension lift kit raises your vehicle’s ride height, increasing ground clearance and creating space for larger tyres. The result is better approach and departure angles, improved traction through greater wheel travel, and the ability to take on tougher terrain with confidence.

INTRODUCING OUR FIRST OFF ROAD ICON

As part of our Off Road Icons project, the Toyota LandCruiser 40 Series was voted as the first to take the spotlight. Produced from 1960 to 1984 with more than one million sold worldwide, including 121,000 in Australia, it became Toyota’s best-selling vehicle of the era. Known for its durability, versatility and family-friendly design, the 40 Series left a legacy so strong that it inspired the modern FJ Cruiser decades later.

TRAIL BEHIND

Preparing your trailer is just as important as preparing your 4WD, and neglecting it can turn an adventure into a breakdown. ARB’s Mark Lowry, with over 25 years of touring experience, shares tips on choosing the right setup, carrying key spares and ensuring proper maintenance so your trailer can handle corrugations and tough tracks. With the right preparation and components, you can avoid common failures and keep your trip on track.
